To (almost) quote Shakespeare:
"Plastic Cups or Glassware? - That is the Question"
And yes, it does make a difference! Actually there's a bunch of differences.
We took the liberty to create a pro/con list for you to make your decision perhaps a little bit easier.
Glassware (recommended for a lower guest count)
- environmentally friendly
(As glassware won't be thrown away, it is more sustainable)
- looks nice
(Drinking an expensive Scotch or wine out of glass is simply more
(Unless you celebrate on grass: You drop it, you lose it, and rentals generally charge for broken
(Renting glassware can be expensive and might exceed your budget)
Plastic Cups (recommended for events with children present)
- no flesh wounds
(If you drop a plastic cup and it breaks, it won't necessarily cut off your
(Even if you choose nicely looking, heavier plastic cups, the overall price
will most likely be lower than getting glassware)
- can be seen as tacky
(Although people generally never complain about free booze, some people regard drinking wine out
of plastic as "tacky")
- lots of trash
(With plastic cups, no one will keep their glasses to refill, so there will be a bunch of trash to get rid
Now that you know if you like glassware or plastic cups we can get down to the real deal!
How do I know how much my guests will drink?
Well, you don't, exactly. But we can give you a great estimate calculated from our long experience!
We will explain to you step by step how we got to our final number, so you can follow along.
If this is too confusing please let us know! If you book your event with us, a glassware calculation is included with our services.
(This calculation includes a calculation for plastic cups)
- Amount of guests (Ex: 100 guests)
- Duration of the bar service (Ex: 5 hours)
- Will glassware be cleaned throughout the event? (Ex: YES)
1. We estimate 1 drink per person per hour if the event is at least 4 hours long.
(100 x 5 = 500)
2. About 30% of the drinks served are usually beer, which will be served in bottles/cans.
(500 x 0.7 = 350)
This will be the number of plastic cups needed!
3. Are the glasses cleaned throughout the event? YES - reduce the count by 25%
(350 x 0.75 = 260)
If the glasses are not cleaned throughout the event the count can be reduced by 10% as some people will bring glasses back for a refill.
(350 x 0.9 = 315)
Type of Glasses
Lastly, you will need to know what kind of glasses to rent (there are so many to choose from).
We recommend 3 types of glassware to cover all basic needs:
Specialty Glasses - approximately 30%
(Depend on your bar menu. E.g. Martini Glasses)
All Purpose Glasses - approximately 35%
Wine Glasses - approximately 35%
So much Math!
Now, get yourself a drink. You deserve it!
